What We Love: October 10th
Here’s what I’m loving this week:
3Doodler : I’ve been interested in all of the capabilities of 3D printing for some time now, but of course I can’t afford to buy my own. However, those interested in 3D printing at a hobby level can now purchase a 3D pen! Check out their website for DIY instructions and tons of inspiration from crafty people who are making magnets, sculptures, wallets, and so much more with this new tool!
Covenant House: I have been volunteering with The Covenant House in New Orleans for a few months. This non-profit organization houses and cares for homeless youth and young adults. At Covenant House, young people who live there have a family atmosphere, with homework help, hot meals eaten together, private rooms, and help with getting jobs and saving money. Once you save a specified amount, you then are eligible to move into a private room in a separate residence, where you have more freedom. The next step is to learn life skills and continue saving until the Covenant House staff can help you find an apartment of your very own. And Covenant House has really cool fundraisers to fund the homes, including “Sleep Out”, where people sleep on the streets to raise awareness for the plight so many young people face. I cried when I watched this video of Broadway performers singing up to the rooms of the kids while conducting a Sleep Out in New York.
