After having a riveting conversation about the wonders of Scientology with some friends, I hiked to my local library, got myself a library card finally, and took out Leah Remini’s book Troublemaker.
If you have any interest in cults or religions, or are looking for an interesting view into a celebrity’s life and rise to fame, this is a great read. It also was a quick read – the language is simple and Remini keeps you interested. I enjoyed her Bronx girl toughness and the peeks into the lifestyle of famous Scientologists like Tom Cruise.
I already had watched the HBO documentary on Scientology (I highly recommend it) and was enthralled with the weirdness of L. Ron Hubbard’s invention. I was excited to read this book in order to dive deeper into the experience of Sea Org and all the other aspects that go into this religion. And Remini delivered! As an added bonus, she also tells about her trials throughout her career in show-business, and features some fun images from 80s and 90s sitcoms.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 GALaxies!
